Paul de Koning obtained his MD (1983) and PhD (1987, nerve regeneration) at Utrecht
University. He trained in neurology before joining Solvay Pharmaceuticals where he was
Head of Clinical Pharmacology. At Astra Zeneca he was the Global Head for all Clinical
Pharmacology Units and set up a global ECG Centre. At Astellas he was VP, Global Head for
Clinical Pharmacology and Exploratory Development. At all three companies he introduced
and established the concepts of Exploratory Development, forging close interaction between
pre-clinical and clinical scientists as well as business development. He lectured in EU, USA,
Canada, Russia, China, Singapore, Japan, South Africa.

After nearly 30 years in Pharma he established his own company (Paul de Koning Coaching
and Consul=ng) in 2015. Next to consul=ng on Exploratory Development, he coaches and
mentors young scientists who start in leadership positions.
