Financial Controller
What do you actually do day-to-day at Oncode?
My role covers a broad range of financial activities. I work on bookkeeping, trial balance, general ledger tasks, project control, tracking grants, funding and investments. I also manage core administrative processes such as invoice handling, payments, and tracking accounts receivable and payable, VAT-filing (Value Added Tax) and overseeing year-end closing processes.
I work closely with Business Development on project agreements and invoicing, and with Community & Research on base research funding and CPoC-projects. A major part of my work is automating and centralising financial processes so we can deliver reliable information and keep operations efficient.
How does your work connect to our mission?
By ensuring that grants, funds and project investments are tracked correctly, I help create stability around the research. When financial processes run smoothly and information is accurate, researchers can focus fully on their work.
Strong financial discipline supports progress. It helps projects continue without disruptions and ensures that ideas can move towards patient impact with clarity and momentum.
Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of. What changed because of it?
One project I am proud of is the transition from manual Excel-based workflows to automated systems. We now collect and integrate data through Power BI. Next step is that historical data being added, giving teams a complete and structured overview of project financials.
Another important project is structuring all financial agreements and automating invoice generation. With input from Business Development, I introduced a system where invoices are created automatically instead of manually, reducing errors and saving time. We also now have a clear view of milestones and payment schedules.
These improvements make our processes more reliable and give teams better insight into the financial status of their projects.
What helps you do your best work here?
I appreciate having the freedom to improve and simplify our financial processes. Oncode gives me space to explore new tools, compare solutions and implement what works best for the organisation.
Working with flexible software and automated workflows helps us operate efficiently without depending too heavily on external parties.
Outside of work, what’s something people might not expect about you?
I enjoy travelling, especially in Asia, where my roots are in Malaysia and where my family lives. Visiting different countries and reconnecting with those ties gives me energy and perspective. Japan is one of the places I have enjoyed exploring, and countries like South Korea and Vietnam are still on my list. To disconnect after work, I also enjoy watching action and thriller films. It helps me switch off and relax after a busy day.
